JOB OBJECTIVES:
1. Will be a regular employee of Boone County. Will be hired by the Board of Supervisors and work under the supervision of the Secondary Road Foreman, Maintenance Superintendent and County Engineer. This position is classified as non-exempt.
2. Perform skilled maintenance and repair work on a variety of light to heavy mechanized, specialized equipment.
3. Will be governed by the applicable Boone County Personnel Policies as approved by the Boone County Board of Supervisors.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following:
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Responsible for all levels of maintenance, from tune-ups to major overhaul, on all equipment within assigned maintenance garage.
2. Provides input on specifications for new equipment.
3. Requisitions parts, components and shop supplies and maintains an inventory of the same.
4. Operates acetylene and arc welding equipment to straighten, construct, rebuild or reinforce parts for equipment such as truck frames, boxes, hoists and wings.
5. Responds to telephone and/or radio requests for emergency mechanical repair of County equipment in the field.
6. Maintains necessary records, forms and logs for parts used and time spent repairing equipment.
7. Additional duties as may be assigned by the Secondary Roads Foreman, Maintenance Superintendent or County Engineer.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Operate equipment for snow removal, sanding, salting and plowing.
2. Maintains a clean work area, which includes sweeping the shop floor and cleaning various shop tools.
3. Ability to establish effective working relationships with assigned co-workers, supervisor, and the public.
4. Ability to safely perform a wide range of physical tasks, including: walking on uneven ground, standing, lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling amounts weighing up to 75 pounds, bending, kneeling and balancing.
5. Ability to safely work under conditions involving exposure to extreme temperatures, odors, toxic agents, smoke, noise vibrations, moving machinery, dirt, and dust.
JOB STANDARDS:
1. Communicate on both telephone and FM radio.
2. Ability to operate a personal computer
3. Drive vehicles (Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brakes.)
4. Operate construction and maintenance equipment.
5. Perform heavy manual labor (lifting up to 100 pounds) under all types of weather conditions.
6. Be available for emergencies 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
7. Effectively communicate with the residents of Boone County.
JOB LOCATION:
1. Works out of one of three (3) secondary roads maintenance garages. Occasionally travels the secondary roads in the area to respond to maintenance problems.

12. Dozer
13. Scraper
14. Sign truck
15. Semi tractor/trailer
16. Various welding equipment
17. Acetylene cutting torch
18. Use of hand tools and shop tools
19. Other similar equipment may be assigned
CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE:
Minimum
1. Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and four (4) years of experience in repair, maintenance and tune-up of light to heavy equipment; or an equivalent combination of education, substituting completion of vocational automotive and diesel mechanic course for two (2) years of experience.
2. Must possess a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License with air brakes.
Desirable
1. Knowledge of automotive and construction equipment usage, maintenance and repair.
2. Knowledge of principles and practices used in the maintenance, repairing and constructing of County roads, right-of-ways and drainage district facilities.
3. Knowledge of materials, methods and techniques used in construction and maintenance activities.
