Board of Supervisors
Comprised of three members elected countywide to four year terms, the Board of Supervisors has the authority to adopt legislation, set County operating policies, approve the annual budget for all departments and functions, and is the only entity that can enter contractual obligations on behalf of the County.
Public meetings are held each Wednesday in the courthouse second-floor boardroom from 8:30 a.m. until noon, or when the agenda is completed. To join the meetings via ZOOM, use the following link:

Closed sessions are permitted for purposes described in Code of Iowa Chapter 21, where it is necessary or advisable to protect the interests of individuals or the County.
Citizens can request to be on the agenda by contacting Julie Hinman, Board Secretary, at jhinman@boonecounty.iowa.gov or 515-433-0500. Citizens may also address the Board without an appointment by waiting for open and unscheduled agenda time, which is not guaranteed to be available.
In addition to scheduled meetings, individual board members are available to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday of each week.

Bill Zinnel
First elected a Boone County Supervisor in 2016, Bill was elected to a second term in 2020.
Bill grew up in a northwest Iowa farming family and went on to earn a degree in Agricultural Business from Iowa State University.
Upon graduation, he began a banking career in Pella, Iowa, before moving to Boone in 1983 to become an agricultural lender at Citizens National Bank. He eventually served 20 years as Senior Vice President of Ag and Commercial Lending at Boone Bank & Trust Co., retiring in 2019 to fully dedicate his time to serving as a Boone County Supervisor.
In addition to his banking career, Bill has also served several community organizations, including 29 years with the Boone Noon Kiwanis Club, the Boone County Endowment Board, the Boone County Compensation Committee, the Boone County Condemnation Board, the Boone County Chamber of Commerce Board, the Boone County Fair Board and the Boone County Hospital Foundation Board.
Bill’s goals include making Boone County the best it can be while remaining responsible for protecting taxpayers’ money. He finds the supervisor position to be interesting with great diversity in responsibilities.

Erich Kretzinger
Elected in 2020, Erich Kretzinger earned the distinction of being named Boone County's first Certified Iowa County Supervisor by the Iowa State Association of County Supervisors in 2022.
A Jefferson native and graduate of The University of Iowa College of Business professional experience includes being executive director of the Eagle Grove (Iowa) Chamber of Commerce and Industrial Development Corporation, before coming to Boone in 1987 to serve as Marketing and Investment Officer at Citizens National Bank. His career went on to include twenty years owning two regional office services companies with a footprint that encompassed a third of Iowa.
Erich would go on to serve ten years as Executive Director with Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit Christian housing ministry serving Boone, Greene and Guthrie Counties. Here he led development of an innovative home repair program offered today by Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the nation.
Volunteer leadership experience includes the Habitat for Humanity of Iowa Board of Directors, the Central Iowa Regional Housing Authority Executive Board along with multiple local boards of directors, including Mamie Eisenhower Birthplace, Boone Area Merchants Association and Boone Area Chamber of Commerce. He has served multiple terms on the Augustana Lutheran Church Council, including several years as Congregation President.
Erich’s goals as supervisor include promoting transparency through public communication, protecting people and property through effective law enforcement, expanding cooperation with our cities, continued progress on improving secondary roads, and consistent effort to bring more of our state and federal tax dollars back home.

Shawn Bryant
Elected a Boone County Supervisor in 2022, Shawn has an extensive background in corrections, law enforcement and the military. A combat veteran of both Iraq and Afghanistan and a Bronze Star recipient, today Shawn is retired from the Iowa National Guard.
Shawn is a native Iowan with over 30 years’ experience in leadership and making tough decisions. Outside of his service to Boone County, current and past volunteer activities include Pack Committee Chair of Cub Scout Pack 155, Boone County Planning and Zoning Commission, Boone Green Space Committee, Boone County Sheriff's Reserve Program, Boone County Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee, and Boone County Search and Rescue.
A strong believer in protecting our environment, Shawn and his family maintain a four-mile stretch of Boone County roadway through participation in the Adopt-A-Road program.
Shawn’s leadership goals with Boone County include demonstrating fiscal responsibility, cooperation with our cities, equal pay for equal work, protection of our people through effective law enforcement, and veteran support.
