Seasonal PRN Groundskeeper

POSITION TITLE: PRN Seasonal Groundskeeper 

FLSA: PRN, Seasonal, Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

The Groundskeeper position reports to the Building and Grounds Maintenance Director. This position will maintain the grounds of the Boone County Government Campus which includes the Boone County Courthouse, Law Enforcement Center, Human Services Building, and the Boiler/Maintenance Building. This position is governed by the Boone County Employee Handbook and applicable federal and state laws. This position will be PRN, meaning this position will work as needed.

WORK SHIFT

This position will be seasonal, working from approximately April through September. This is a non-exempt position meaning it is eligible for overtime. Hours will vary based on seasonal demands. This position allows flexibility of hours.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Works alongside the Director to provide care for the grounds of the Boone County Government Campus. The Campus includes lawns, trees, sidewalks, parking lots, and flowerbeds.

· Responsible for mowing, trimming, and care of flower beds.

· It is strongly recommended to wear steel or composite toed boots while working.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

· Iowa Driver’s License.

· High School diploma or GED.

· Willing and able to operate a lawn mower and other grounds care equipment.

· Self-starter and internally motivated to perform the tasks needed with minimal direction and supervision.

· Must pass a criminal background check, medical examination, and drug testing.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS 

Attire:

No clothing containing offensive images or statements; offensive includes, but not limited to, profane, vulgar, or sexually suggestive language or images. When the work requires, long pants should be worn. Clothes should not contain holes or be in disrepair. 

Required physical activities/essential to the position:  

Climbing stairs, hiking over uneven terrain, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, finger dexterity, grasping, carry equipment and items, and ability to move items weighing between 60 and 80 lbs. Reasonable accommodation requests will be considered, if needed. 

ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT

The following list is not exhaustive, but does represent the types of equipment that the department utilizes:

· Lawn and garden tractor with mower.

· Zero-turn mower.

· Automotive vehicles.

· Other equipment, as needed.
