Orienteering Courses

The art of Map and Compass orienteering has been slightly lost due to the ease of GPS in our every day life. However, this survival skill can help in a pinch and is quite fun and rewarding after learning the basics.

BCCB offers a series of Orienteering Courses at Don Williams Recreation Area. These courses were designed and graciously completed as an Eagle Scout project in 2020. Cael Wineland, Dallas Center, IA, and Troop 116 built several courses, with varying levels of difficulty, beginner to expert.

Please use caution when deciding to complete a course, tell someone your plan, and practice "leave no trace" policies.

If you have questions, or would like an orienteering program for your group, please contact the Boone County Conservation Naturalist.
